At long last, the report from Gerard Bouchard and Charles Taylor on reasonable accommodation in Quebec has been released, and provides a wealth of story ideas for reporters covering religion in Canada. Notes: The Seventh-Day Adventist Church is a Christian denomination whose fundamental belief is in Jesus Christ as the Son of God, who died for our sins and rose again, and that salvation is granted to any person who accepts Him by faith.
The name "Seventh-day Adventist" was chosen in 1860, although the denomination was not officially organized until Ma y 21, 1863 in the U.S., when the movement included some 125 churches and 3,500 members. The name "Seventh-day Adventist" includes two vital beliefs for the church" "Adventist" reflects their conviction in the nearness of the soon return ("advent") of Jesus, while the term "Seventh-day" refers to the biblical Sabbath (Saturday), the day that Seventh Day Church members meet for worship.
There are 31 churches with 3,061 members in Manitoba, Saskatchewan and Nunavut Territory.
Church members help people in need in the developing world through Adventist Development and Relief Agency (ADRA), a humanitarian agency which, through its financial, material and technical resources, supports, rehabilitates and enhances the quality of life and well-being of communities and citizens in developing countries with particular attention to the extremely deprived.
